The "unhealthy" season got you down? Let's talk about how to use Essential Oils on yourself and your family to promote better health and wellness, but first I want to talk about safety.

For safety and effectiveness you want pure high quality Essential Oils when using topically or internally. The Essential Oils I use are carefully sourced to meet rigorous standards. This means they are grown and harvested in their native environment. This ensures they are potient and are not missing any of the important natural chemical constituents needed. Each batch undergoes multiple 3rd party testing to ensure they are potent, free of fillers, pesticides, and foreign contaminants. Be extremely careful when taking advice from a blog when learning about an essential oil. A blog is just one person’s opinion. Yes I know. This is a blog. I have done my own research and you should do yours as well. These are methods that I have tested and worked for my family.

Avoid contact with your eyes. If by accident contact occurs dilute with a carrier oil (such as fractionated coconut oil or sweet almond oil) NOT water. These oils may smell good but they are not the perfume grade oils you buy at your local supermarket just for the pretty smell. These are natural, powerful plant compounds that enhance physical and emotional health without harsh side effects. Many Essential Oils have anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral properties. Essential Oils are lipophilic which means they can pass through cell walls. Some oils can even pass through the blood/brain barrier.

There are three ways to use Essential Oils: Topically, Aromatically and Internally. Some ways are more effective than others depending on the health concern, and remember that not all brands of oils can be used internally. The brand I use is safe for internal use. I use a lot of rollerball remedies for Topical use. Just roll onto the bottoms of your feet or over the affected area. I reapply every 15-30 minutes at the start of an acute health concern until I start to feel results which is normally 1-3 applications but could take more depending how early you caught it and what type of health concern you are dealing with. After I feel a little relief I apply every few hours until I feel I am back to normal. For less aggressive, ongoing health concerns, 2-3x daily should be sufficient.

It seems to usually be late evening when my kids start to feel icky. I’ll apply oils topically to the bottoms of their feet before bed and once or twice before I go to bed. They call me creepy for sneaking into their room but I think I’d rather be the creepy mom than the mom cleaning up vomit at 3am.

As for internally, I take 1 drop on my tongue and wash down with a sip of water. You can also mix with food or put them into veggie capsules which you can get from the same place I get my oils. I drink lemon and other citrus oils in my water every day for a gentle detox. Plus, it tastes really good and encourages me to drink more water.

Aromatically you can use a diffuser to disperse oils in your home or add a drop or two in your hands, cup over your mouth and nose and inhale. Be careful not to get too close to your eyes.
